Those Who Forget the Past...

Today was more than a bit disconcerting...

If you're a captive of the mainstream media you'd not even know anything ever happened at Kent State 40 years ago. Thank goodness for NPR and public radio, which at least observed and recognized the conviction and sacrifice of those who had the courage to stand up for their beliefs. Nevertheless even All Things Considered had an apologist scoffing at (and I quote) the "Kent State Incident". What part of a cold-blooded massacre of innocent unarmed American college students by "their" own government do you not understand???

Sadly far worse seems to pass without even a peep of protest these days. Thirty years ago reports of government sponsored murders were investigated and laws were passed to stop them. Now all that is a distant memory as our government routinely tortures and murders innocent people and faces no investigation, no hearings, and no accountability. And if anyone starts to raise any questions they throw a few more billion dollars at Blackwater to do more evil work for them.

I'm impressed that at least Facebook was buzzing with discussion of Kent State, so it appears some people have figured out we need to make our own media when the commercial media that's bought and paid for is clearly no longer serving the public.

College students (who led the movement a generation ago) are probably too worried about how they're ever going to get a job (let alone pay off their student loans) once they graduate, so the hollowing out of America seems to have the collateral damage of silencing protests against that process.
